BH Awards

We had three BH competitors, two of which are Fox Valley Police & Schutzhund Club members.  Chris Duffey, Linda Hupf and Tom Smith were all first timers. That meant all of them had to take a written test concerning the BH rules, pass the obedience routine with 70% or above and, if the first two steps were successful, pass a traffic stability and temperament test.  "BH" stands for "Begleitenhund", or "traffic steady companion dog".  It is a prerequisite for any dog team wishing to compete for schutzhund titles.

All three were successful in their written test and moved on the obedience portion.  Linda and Otto, her black male German Shepherd, were cheered on by her family and Otto heeled attentively.  Chris Duffey also handled a German Shepherd that was feeling spunky but remembered his manners to successfully complete the routine, doing a nice job of it.  We were very excited to watch Tom Smith and his lovely German Shorthair female, Schatzie. Unfortunately, Schatzie was distracted and Tom elected to stop the routine. Tom was already asking when his next opportunity may be, and we are very proud of how much he has accomplished with Schatzie.

After obedience, Linda and Chris finished the traffic portion, demonstrating that both their dogs were neither fearful nor aggressive in traffic situations or groups of people.  Both received beautiful medallions for their accomplishments.  Linda is also one of our FVPSC members and she and Otto shone in their performance today!  It is a special thrill to see the pride of these dog teams, and the special bond as they make that important first step to cross the threshold to schutzhund.  Congratulations, Chris and Linda!
